CLARiTy Coalition Supports Governor Abbott’s Action

The CLARiTy Coalition supports Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s designation of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization and his call for increased restrictions on the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

For decades, the ideological extremism of the Brotherhood has run through Texas.

For years, our coalition of Muslims, ex-Muslims, scholars, and human rights advocates has raised the alarm about the incursion of political Islam, including networks inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood, into American civic life. We have taken a strong position supporting federal efforts by lawmakers and the U.S. State Department to designate the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization.

Political Islam is not merely a theological position; it is a geopolitical project that seeks to impose an ideological agenda fundamentally at odds with American values of democracy, equality, free expression, and pluralism.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s documented history, global affiliations, and stated ambitions justify serious concern. Likewise, credible questions raised by journalists, researchers, and federal investigations over the years about the Council on American-Islamic Relations merit renewed examination.

We welcome efforts by state and federal officials to uphold the principles of national security, constitutional liberties, and the protection of all communities, including Muslim Americans, against extremism.

The Clarity Coalition will continue to advocate for peace, democracy, secular governance, and the safety of our nation from all forms of ideological extremism.
