Solomon is the son of Jewish parents who fled newly formed Nasserist Egypt in the early 1960s. In 1983, independent filmmaker, Mary Halawani, a cousin of Solomon’s … made a short documentary film about the Jewish exodus from Egypt focusing on Solomon’s grandmother, the family matriarch, Rosette Hakim, and her nostalgia for the warm weather and people she reluctantly left behind. The film was symbolically broadcast around the Passover holiday for a while in the 80s and 90s on New York tri-state affiliates of PBS.
